Thank you for your interest in The Cloudscent Journal. We are currently OPEN for submissions until August 30th, 2024! If we receive your submission between June 30th and July 5th, you will receive a decision within 48 hours. We ask that you kindly adhere to the following guidelines below when you submit, or we may have to disregard your submission.

​We only accept work from young artists ages 12-25.  Thank you for understanding!

General Guidelines

​

The Cloudscent Journal currently accepts all forms of art. This may include creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, digital art, etc. Although there are no required themes for your work, please do not send us any explicitly sexual or violent pieces. Additionally, we will NOT tolerate any work that promotes racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, sexism, or any form of hatred and bigotry, and will instantly reject you. Include content warnings if applicable. All work must be original, and we ask that you cite any sources used; any form of plagiarism will not be tolerated.​

We ask that you include a brief cover letter and a third-person biography in your submission. Both simultaneous submissions and previously published works are highly encouraged! Please just let us know in your cover letter. If your piece is accepted elsewhere before we get back to you, please email us so we can congratulate you! 

 

If accepted, we ask for first serial rights and archival rights upon publication. If your work has been previously published, we ask for second serial rights and archival rights. All rights will revert back to the author immediately following publication. 

 

We will aim to respond to your submission in around 3 months. We offer detailed feedback as an option, though we will take longer to respond to you. If we believe your work has potential, there is a possibility that we may work with you to revise your work so it can be published in either our current or next issue.

 

We ask that you wait at least 4 months past your submission date before you query. You may only submit once each reading period. 

 

We nominate our contributors for Best of the Net and The Pushcart Prize.

Multilingual Submissions

​

While we do accept submissions of different languages, we ask that you please provide an English translation somewhere in your attachment.

Genre Requirements

​

Poetry: You may submit up to three poems. Please submit each poem as a separate file. Your submission must be attached as a PDF or Word document. We ask that you label each file the title of your work. Please do not include any identifying information anywhere in your work.

Prose: You may submit up to two pieces. Please keep each piece under 2000 words. Your submission must be attached as a PDF or Word document. We ask that you label each file the title of your work. Please do not include any identifying information anywhere in your work.

​

Art: You may submit up to five pictures of artwork. This includes all mediums of artwork including paintings, drawings, digital art, mixed media, photography, etc. Your submission must be attached as a PNG or JP(e)G file. We ask that you label each file the title of your work. You may include an artist's statement for each piece under 250 words if you would like to describe your piece in more detail. Please do not include any identifying information anywhere in your work.
